The Tasmanian Commissioner for Children and Young People (Leanne McLean) as part of the Out-of-Home Care Monitoring Program, creatively consulted with children and young people with an out-of-home care experience to explore the theme ‘Being Loved and Safe’. One of these workshops was with a group of Tasmania CREATE young people.
Absolutely stunning artworks and feedback were provided from young Tasmanians’ experiences and views about out-of-home care. These have been brought together, with the help of Simon Spain and Victoria Ryle from All That We Are, into a beautiful picture book, titled ‘Ok, so a nest is a home – Views and experiences of Tasmanian children and young people in out-of-home care’.
Yesterday, Leanne formally launched the book at the Hobart Library with the help of four CREATE young consultants who presented a copy of the book to the Honourable Roger Jaensch MP, Minister for Education, Children and Youth. Through collaboration with Libraries Tasmania, the book officially has an ISBN and is now available in every local library across the state, as well as the National Library.
