  • Media releases and statements about current issues affecting children and young people in care.
  • Relevant news and research in the sector so you can catch up on what has happened over the last month.
  • A monthly advocacy focus. This month it’s National Child Protection Week
  • Consultation opportunities for children and young people to ensure that their lived experiences and voices are heard in decision-making about the out-of-home care system in Australia.
Please share our Wrap Ups far and wide! If you have any feedback, email marketing@create.org.au

Celebrating Child Protection Week

CREATE had a busy September celebrating National Child Protection Week in every State and Territory. We’d like to thank our Young Consultants for attending and speaking at events with CREATE right around the country. CREATE in TAS also ran several YAGs to capture Young Tasmanians thoughts on this year’s Child Protection Week theme, ‘Every conversation matters’.

News

CREATE attended the NT Children’s Awards where Young Consultants, Tim and Alicia announced some of the category winners, alongside Territory Families, Housing and Communities CEO, Emma White.

The Awards also featured a video with our Young Consultants speaking about what makes a good carer. We’ll share it soon so watch this space.

Opportunities

Applications are now open for Country to Couture 2025.

Health & Wellbeing Roundtable in Western Australia

CREATE in WA supported young people to lead a roundtable with the Chief Practitioner for Child Protection, Office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People and the Office of the Minister for Child Protection.

Young people discussed their ideas about what would help improve the health and wellbeing of young people in care and post care. Keep an eye out on our blog to see a full wrap-up of the day and the key solutions young people proposed!

CREATE had the privilege of supporting Young Consultant Chelsea to share her story and experiences of the care system at the inaugural Child Protection Excellence Awards.

The Awards are about recognising the commitment of child protection workers to supporting the 4547 of children and young in care in WA today. Congratulations Chelsea on sharing your powerful words!

News

We’ve been talking a lot about how to make sure young people have a say in the changes that affect them. The CREATE in ACT team has had some fantastic meetings with politicians and key decision-makers, and the Listen to me! report is getting more attention. The big goal here is to make sure kids in out-of-home care get what they need. We’re excited to keep the conversation going and hope everyone stays interested and involved!

Subscribe to our enews below to be the first to know when our monthly Advocacy Wrap Ups are published! Please share our Wrap Ups with your colleagues and if you work with children and young people with a care experience, be sure to flag with them any current consultation opportunities so they can have their say.
