Thursday 8 March is International Women’s Day – an important day to celebrate and recognise the successes of strong, capable and talented women around the world. At CREATE, we seek to create a better life for children and young people around Australia and that would not be possible without a community of strong, empowered women.
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2018, Young Consultant Leilani has shared her views on the importance of International Women’s Day as a young Australian woman.
As a young Australian woman I find it invigorating that we have an International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day allows us to celebrate the great successes and impacts that women have had on the world and that alone is something to be excited about.
To know now that as a woman I have rights and as a woman I am able to do almost anything my male counterparts can, and be recognised and acknowledged to the same degree is deeply motivating. It is motivating because I know that this has not always been the case. I am allowed now to be inspired by my dreams and hopes, and feel encouraged to pursue them like many other women before me.
It is immensely gratifying, as a young woman to see other women succeeding and making an international impact on society and their perceptions of female capabilities. Having a day devoted to the successes of women and the impact they have in society shows other young women everywhere that there is international recognition of their abilities and rights. The continued support from the public for this grand day speaks volumes to me as a young woman and portrays to me that as a woman I CAN and I WILL succeed, no matter what.
I believe that the confidence that this event instills is crucial in the continued fight for equal rights between both sexes and is a major part to ensuring we persist to find an equal ground and continue to acknowledge women’s worth. I am proud of all the successful women, that we have so many of in this world, and that makes me proud to be a woman too.
