Current opportunities

Unfortunately, there are no current opportunities to join Boards or Committees with CREATE. Keep an eye on our socials for opportunities coming soon.

CREATE has Youth Advisory Groupsconsultation opportunities and events you can get involved in right now! Contact your State team for more ways to get involved.

What are Boards and Committees?

  • Boards and Committees are ways to have influence and be involved in decision-making processes
  • They are opportunities to share your ideas, experiences and perspectives with decision-makers in group meetings with other people who bring their own perspectives and ideas.

Why join a Board or Committee?

“I like being involved because it helps me to get a better perspective on what’s happening in the out-of-home care sector. It also is a great way to meet new people and gain new knowledge”

  • Being on a Board or Committee is great for your resume and work experience
  • In most cases you will receive compensation for your valuable time
  • Your input will help to improve the lives of those in care and with a care experience.

FAQs

We have opportunities to join Boards and Committees all around Australia. We usually meet online but there can sometimes be face-to-face meetings. This means that these opportunities are inclusive of where you live, whether that’s in a big City or rural or regional area.

If you are not old enough or don’t have enough experience to participate in a Board or Committee just yet, CREATE has Youth Advisory Groups, consultation opportunities and events you can get involved in right now! Contact your State team for more ways to get involved.

Board and Committee memberships are pretty big commitments! That’s why they’re so great for your resume. But if you’ve got a lot going on with work, uni or life, it might be better to get involved in YAGs, consultation opportunities and events in you State until you can commit to these bigger opportunities which usually require 12 or more months of your commitment.

As each Board and Committee is a little different, see individual opportunities for more details about compensation.

If you are under 18, you must discuss your nomination with your parent, guardian, care or caseworker and have them sign the form.

Yes, you can! Even if you don’t want to use them as a referee, it is still a good idea to give them a heads up that you are applying so they can support your application.

Past opportunities

NEABY (National)

CREATE’s National Experience to Action Board (Youth) or NEABY is made up of young representatives from every State and Territory.

The Board provides advice that drives CREATE’s advocacy as well as identifies gaps and opportunities for improving the lives of children and young people in care.

Queensland’s SHIFT

Together with the Queensland Government, CREATE established the first Ministerial Youth Advisory Group, SHIFT in Queensland on residential care.

SHIFT provides advice directly to the Minister for Child Safety about what needs to change in the residential care system in Queensland.

Victoria’s YEAG

The Youth Expert Advisory Group (YEAG) ensures young, lived experience experts inform the service design, implementation, and evaluation of the Better Futures and Home Stretch initiatives. In 2024, YEAG delivered a Forum for professionals on supporting young people with the transition to independence.

“I feel like we get heard more when we come to CREATE, people are quiet when I talk and don’t talk over me.”
